Ingleside Wines Win Again
Ingleside Vineyards wins four medals in the 28th Annual Governor’s Cup Wine Competition, including a gold medal.
Oak Grove, VA. March 3, 2010 – Out of more than 200 wines entered in the 28th Annual Governor’s Cup Wine Competition, hosted by the Virginia Wineries Association (VWA), Ingleside Vineyards accounted for four of those wines; Petit Verdot 2005 Special Reserve, Cabernet Franc 2006, Merlot 2006, and Sangiovese 2007. Winemaker Bill Swain’s hand-crafted wines, from 100% estate-grown grapes, have proved to be consistently high quality with the amount of awards his wines have won during his eight years at Ingleside and now adding four more to his trophy case. The Merlot 2006 and Sangiovese 2007 both won bronze medals, the Cabernet Franc 2006 won a silver medal, and the ever-popular Petit Verdot 2005 Special Reserve clenched one of the 15 gold medals awarded in the competition.
Winemaking is no easy task and takes years of hard work to produce a fine wine. The Petit Verdot, known for being a blending grape in the Bordeaux region of France, has proven to be a tremendous varietal here in the Northern Neck of Virginia. Ingleside is one of the first wineries to bottle the Petit Verdot grape as its own varietal and since 2001 the grape has been maturing magnificently. Aging for over three years in the barrel, this black label premium wine has a deep, rich color with a bold complex taste. The elegant aromas of vanilla and oak balance out on the palate and pairs perfectly with prime rib and hearty dishes. The 2005 vintage is one of great prestige and the Special Reserve, from select French Oak barrels, is truly “golden”.
Ingleside will once again have a chance of winning more medals and potentially a Governor’s Cup in October, Virginia Wine Month, at the first Governor’s Cup Wine Competition for white wines.
Ingleside Vineyards, established 1980, is a Virginia Century Farm, located in the historical Northern Neck, producing award-winning wines from 100% estate-grown grapes.
